Ratings Adjustments - Ryno - 04-29-2020
I figure this is going to be an ongoing discussion but might as well get it started here.
I would like to recommend we increase the defensive ratings for middle infielders. I noticed it while looking over my team and decided to check out a few others around the league and I see that second basemen and shortstops are committing 20+ errors in a season with shortstops routinely topping 30. In mlb, those numbers would be closer to the upper teens on the high end for starting 2B/SS.

Thanks for bringing it up. These are the things that certainly need to be looked at. Errors end up with guys on base, which then skews other numbers. I'll look over both the pb.ini and the pgend.dat to see if I can figure anything out.
Is it that the ratings are low, or that they are just committing too many errors. If it is just the errors then I can likely fix that with a few tweaks of the INI, if it is the ratings in general, then that is a little bit more work, because adding to FA will take away from another rating.

I don't know that a ratings boost will fix it, Mets - SS Lee Duffie with 99FA, and 73 AS committed 18 errors in CBL this season. Yes I think the errors are a little high, but it puts a little more premium on fielding than most leagues.

Must be something else then. I was gonna suggest a 10-15% boost to middle infielders because in general your middle infielders should have notably higher ratings than your corner guys.

Actually, what I am going to do first is see what kind of errors are being committed. If they are throwing errors or fielding errors. Then I'll see if I can adjust anywhere that makes sense.

On a side note, does anyone think that it might be worth it to increase steals and try to decrease doubles?
I'm kind of leaning towards leaving things they way they are, because some of these changes can have unintended consequences. But, I'm willing to test out settings on a test league and show you guys results if you think it is worth the time.

I was able to make a pretty easy change to the catch chance, which has lowered errors and doubles by quite a bit. I went a little too far, and now I don't feel that we are getting enough errors. I'm going to try another tweak to see if we can get somewhere in the middle. I will post back here as soon as I have results of this new test.
